Each of the maths groups have been making paper planes then measuring the distance that they can fly. Each group then have to convert the metres to centimetres. Lots of fun maths!

Term 1 seen through Room 3 photos. Gee, what a busy and exciting term! We had an awesome visit from Cam Calkoen today. He was inspiring in so many ways. He reminds us that if we believe then we can achieve anything. He talks about dreaming big and achieving more.
What are your dreams? What do you want to achieve? As we worked on our Nigel Brown art, also experimented with Augmented Reality using the app Aurasma. This allowed us to embed a video of our art descriptions and reflections into the art so when others viewed the art through the app the videos appeared. It was pretty cool and lots of visitors to Room 3 were very impressed! A huge thanks to Ana for her help and leadership doing this in the class.
We now are going to brainstorm some ways we can use this AR technology in our learning next term. I can't wait to see what ideas Room 3 come up with! Today we shared our Nigel Brown inspired art with the rest of year 7 and parents. It has been great to see the high quality of art and the thought which has gone into each piece of work. It has also been fun to experiment with augmented reality using the Aurasma app. Here is our work: Today in maths we begun to explore the amount of room we have in our classroom. This was to help us develop a stronger understanding of a square metre.
We first started with estimating how long a metre is then checked it. We then drew a square metre on the floor. In groups we estimated how many students could fit in the square metre. Our estimates ranged from 7 - 12. We then tested our estimates. We actually managed to fit in 14 students! Our next task was to use our understanding of how long a metre is to estimate the length and width of the classroom. In groups we came up with several different estimates. This was checked using a builders tape measure. We could then work out the area of the classroom. We are now working on developing a scale drawing of the classroom including furniture. The resources that we have to choose from include pen and paper and draw into our maths books. We decided that if we are using our maths books then our scale is 1 square = 1 metre. Other resources include using mine-craft (suggested by Flynn) or Roomle (www.roomle.com). This allows use to build a model but also as a 3D model and gives us the sensation of moving through the room. This links well to our home-learning task of drawing/creating scale models of our bedrooms. It was a fun session. JT enjoyed that it was fun but we are still learning at the same time. Flynn commented that it is cool how you could use different programs like Roomle or Mine-craft. Also great to choose which program you want to use. Tomorrow on Friday 27 March we will be having a mufti day to raise money for the Ronald McDonald House. The cost is $2.00 which will be given to class councillors in the morning. Please remember to have appropriate shoes and clothes for House Sports in the afternoon.
Thank you Room 3 for an awesome camp. It was heaps of fun and I enjoyed all the exciting adventures we had. |
